MORNINGS ARE FOR COFFEE AND CONTEMPLATION

MORNINGS ARE FOR COFFEE AND CONTEMPLATION

Of course I couldn’t help but go crazy for this scene

David Harbor has a long filmography even if before Stranger Things probably many had that famous feeling of “I’ve seen him in which movie?”

Undoubtedly Hopper is a character!
And undoubtedly the step from Hopper to Alexei Shostakov aka Red Guardian is a bit of a caricature compared to the features that made Hop so loved.

Regarding Black Widow, I would especially mention the cover of Smells like teen spirit

And speaking of covers: David Harbor proposed American Pie in one of the opening scenes to give more emotionally engaging depth to his character.
Good job.

But most of all, I really enjoyed this visit to his Manhattan home

Books and books among which he was keen to show two copies of Don Quixote.

And then guitars, plants, and the memory of “Shakespeare in the park” in New York with Meryl as Juliet and Kevin Kline as Romeo I can’t believe I’ve been missing so far!

You knew it?
See here what I found! To me it’s like One-eyed Willy’s treasure!

To be explored ASAP !!!

L’ACQUA DEL LAGO NON È MAI DOLCE – LAKE WATER IS NEVER SWEET

L’ACQUA DEL LAGO NON È MAI DOLCE – LAKE WATER IS NEVER SWEET

And here we are again talking about the Strega Prize, even if in this case missing, despite the multiplied predictions and fans in favor of the book Lake water is never sweet by Giulia Caminito Edizioni Bompiani.

Once again for this reading I want to thank Monica who after telling me her impressions told me “but I want to know what you think.”

First of all, I loved the way in which the author got rid of the dialogue / quotes formula by inserting the speeches in direct form in a single uninterrupted stream of words.

More than a lake, in fact a river, a fast flowing current, an enthralling current from which the reader allows himself to be led satisfied with a constant absence of static, which on the contrary constitutes a preponderant characteristic of the lake.

The lake water is also typically cold, and while I really admired the writing, as far as I’m concerned I couldn’t “dive.”

I read the book with that curiosity that accelerates reading, and all the while I had the feeling that I would find something obscure in the following pages, like the lake depths that leave that perennial sense of disquiet, but it was not so.

Or rather, Giulia Caminito described the wickedness in its hidden but latent presence within the human soul. Yet it is as if along with awareness, intention was also sought.

The narration in the first person never reveals the name of the main character, who will appear only as a signature to a letter, and in the same way hides the deep self, which, as much as the underwater nativity scene, lies submerged, manifesting itself only in some moments that remain suspended, logs like piers that only provide the momentum to dive.

There are never consequences, everything flows, everything proceeds in indifference.

So in the end I compare myself to the “lemons abandoned outside the gate” (quote from the book) … wondering if this was not the real intent.

I also recommend the “pro and con” evaluation by Matavitatau that leaves from the analysis of the final notes.

Reading the notes, however, my thoughts have deviated a little course to focus mainly on a theme that is very close to my heart and which leads back to the character that aroused the most empathy in me: Iris.

If you have already read, or will read the book, you will surely understand why. So I wait to know how you find lake water.

Curious coincidence: right about the lakefront of Anguillara Loredana had spoken to me, also giving me the photo of her cup of coffee that in case you find it here

So feel free to send me your favorite cup as well whenever you want: I will be happy to share other nice trips from mug to mug …

JEWISH PRESENCES IN VIGEVANO IN REMOTE AND RECENT HISTORY

JEWISH PRESENCES IN VIGEVANO IN REMOTE AND RECENT HISTORY

Sunday the 4th of July in the beautiful setting in the courtyard of Palazzo Merula in Vigevano  where, among other things, there is the municipal historical archive, Ermanno Boccalaris book was presented: Jewish presence in Vigevano in remote and recent history part of a special series “Leading roles” edited by Astrolabio and Punto & Virgola

The author has carried out a precise and meticulous research which reveals the first testimonies of Jewish bankers in 1400 during the period of the Visconti Sforza duchy and which embraces all types sector.

We were therefore able to hear stories of doctors as well as architects, and for example we learned that the first recipe of a typical local product actually comes from a kosher preparation.

The all-round excursus also included the seventh art: with a quote dedicated to Il maestro di Vigevano by Elio Petri, as regards the wife of the master played by Alberto Sordi, or actress Claire Bloom.

Wikipedia gives us an image with a cup of coffee on the table of one of the Cafe in Piazza Ducale.

Speaking of Piazza Ducale: have you ever noticed the star of David on the cobblestones in front of the Cathedral?

CONCLUSIONI INIZIALI – INCEPTIVE CONCLUSIONS

CONCLUSIONI INIZIALI – INCEPTIVE CONCLUSIONS

Inceptive conclusions is a free book downloadable here on the blog Il Perdilibri which I had already thanked for the Bisarca contest

This book was born as a challenge conceived and conducted by Gianni, author of the blog and by Ysingrinus of Discussioni Concentriche: a thousand comments to a WordPress post born by chance but continued with clear and precise intent.

A sort of experiment, with the aim of getting to the bottom, which gave birth to a roller coaster of connected or disconnected phrases, impromptu or weighted, which could be food for thought as much as assists for comic jokes.

Each comment is reported with date and time and this choice is also a winner, since I, faced with some particular days, found myself rethinking what I was doing at that moment, while they were playing this squash with words.

But the absolutely fantastic thing is that every comment could be the beginning of a story.

So I could not help but think of Meryl and of Out of Africa that I love

even if in reality the effect more than Karen Blixen is deliberately bizarre, so I considered more another interaction of ideas …

improvisation is such that it seems unlikely, but it works!

And in absolute serendipity the authors conquer their glove: a precise metaphor of the challenge, which in my opinion they have won.

In the final conclusions, reference is made to a prize for a certain type of readers and therefore as far as I am concerned I consider myself rewarded, and I thank them.

But next time, you two creative ideas, keep me in mind: I could be the Orietta Berti of the trio.
Any reference to current summer hits is not accidental at all.
Seriously: congratulations.

SOLSTICES COMARI AND TAROTS

SOLSTICES COMARI AND TAROTS

itsIn recent days I have crossed various thoughts, starting from Gabriella‘s post on the Water of San Giovanni but also on the rite of fire to become comari, not in the sense that I had so far given to this word.

Therefore, water and fire.
Water and fire that according to Cicero “are not of more universal use than friendship.”
Water and fire, two of the four elements of life.

The water and the fire that the druids define Litha that is the light of the shore because the fire, or rather the sun, which has reached the zenith and has reached its maximum point, plunges into the waters, on the beach, at the meeting point between land and sea.

Of the summer solstice, which Alidada explained masterfully in her Uno spicchio di cielo, I fell in love many years ago reading Sarum by Edward Rutherfurd who, starting from the ice age, sees the birth of Stonehenge which in my imagination goes far beyond the status of “ringing rocks” for example, and is covered in mystery with that aftertaste of legend that I love.

But returning to Litha, I would like to resume a little the concept of Samhain: moment in which the veil between the two worlds is thinner, but moving the contrast between “above and below” just like a celebration of the opposite, which of course I love. It is no coincidence that Litha is also defined as a day out of time.

In this reversal, it is as if the elements of fire and water overturn their roles in a magical union.
A suggestive image representing this magic is realized in the floating candles.

Fire, water.
Bonfire and dew.
Waves and fires.

This is how Shakespeare in his A Midsummer Night’s Dream describes the reply of a fairy:
Over hill, over dale,
Thorough bush, thorough brier,
Over park, over pale,
Thorough flood, thorough fire.
I do wander everywhere
Swifter than the moon’s sphere.
And I serve the fairy queen
To dew her orbs upon the green.

Fire, water.
Sun and moon.

And then I remembered the advice QueenFaee Studio gave me in the comments here where sun and moon draw inspiration from the Visconti Sforza tarot cards, just to point out the curious coincidences, and my connection with the land …

This short film by Garrone for Dior enchants like the magical floating of the stars under the marvelous vault of the Tuscan castle of Sammezzano which, exactly as if inverted upside down, leads them to float in the water of the fountain.

Maria Grazia Chiuri wanted to give a reinterpretation of the tarot cards by transporting them into a fairy-tale but also an artistic dimension, in which the precious embroideries and the refined textures of the fabrics give life to works of art: living paintings, which not only allow themselves to be observed, but drag on a journey in search of answers.

The first dress, among other things, struck me: leaves on lace, a sort of mixture of fashion and nature that not by chance I immediately found magical, and that made me think in particular of the tree in the photo under the title, with its dress of ivy, because Nature dresses wonderfully.

But perhaps my absolute favorite is Le Pendu.

At this point you will tell me “but what does all this have to do with it”

In reality, by crossing traditions, legends and fairytale atmospheres, I would like to interpret this summer as a series of cards that can offer a reading key that allows the re-appropriation of the magic of feeling aligned with the sun, ready to welcome the light.

And you?
What do you see or predict in your cards?
Water, fire, or what else?

PS: in the comments the Keep Calm version of Le Fou … or an upside-down creature who wants to be a comare, who is not silent like a cicada, who accumulates like an ant and who knows how to be heavy as a stone, but also loooong more “suspended” than Stonehenge laughing
