WOMAD

WOMAD

Womad stands for World of Music, Arts and Dance, an international music and arts foundation known primarily for its festivals, held annually in multiple locations around the world.

You never know where interesting news may come from” is the concept I have learned throughout my years.

To confirm it I will tell you that the first time I found information about Womad I was reading with my son from his English school book.

We owe the idea of this music art and dance festival to Peter Gabriel

In 1982 the author of the immortal 7/4 song with that harmonic theme that brought everyone’s thoughts on that perfect green to the sky, together with a group of people started the first festival right in Somerset, in Shepton Mallet.

Later the project evolved into a mission: to create opportunities for cultural exchange and learning to bring the arts of different cultures to the widest possible audience by developing arts education and creative learning projects.

After all, Peter Gabriel’s spirit of contamination appeared to us loud and clear in the blending of tribal percussion and electro-synth sounds in Shock the monkey.

The resounding aspect of the Womad festival that is being held these days is that Carmen Consoli announced her participation with this picture.

The Singeress.

I would say she is perfect to represent the strength of roots and the richness of collaborations.

Carmen is the first Italian artist to perform at the world music festival.

July 27 / 30 – Charlton Park are the coordinates of Womad 2023.

While waiting, we can watch highlights from last year’s edition: the 40th.

AND THEN WE WILL BE SAVED

AND THEN WE WILL BE SAVED

With E poi saremo salvi – And then we will be saved again I thank Monica and again I talk about the Strega Prize

And then we will be saved is the debut novel by Alessandra Carati, published by Mondadori, winner of the Opera prima Viareggio Rèpaci prize and among the top seven finalist books for the Strega 2022 prize.

Andrea Vitali, celebrated writer from Bellano, proposed and presented the book.

The salvation told by Alessandra Carati is sought because of the war in Bosnia through an escape to Italy, but the characteristic of this novel is precisely its ability to show how being safe does not mean being saved.

And one finds oneself reflecting on roots, or perhaps better said uprooting, and how there is no place in the world where one can escape from pain.

A pain that manifests itself in different ways is that it is the only true “arbiter.”

Alessandra tells us Aida’s story in episodes, sort of like when we remember “that time.”

And in between times, life flows.

And in between times the family changes, while remaining a fixed point, at times distant, like the land of her origin.

The reflection this reading leaves me with concerns the impossibility of leaving behind pain, whatever kind it may be.

We cannot prevent pain from being part of us; we can only choose how to live with it.

Salvation, then, in this book, reconnects with another Strega Prize winner, Tutto chiede salvezza – Everything asks for salvation, the book by Daniele Mencarelli.

There are indeed many kinds of salvation at different levels.

I find these words of Pablo Neruda emblematic:
If nothing saves us from death, at least love should save us from life.

However, I am also struck by these two basically similar interpretations:

Human salvation lies in the hands of the creatively maladjusted.
Martin Luther King

The only tool that can save my life is imagination.
Alejandro Jodorowsky

Did you feel saved when?

YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE IT’S HALLOWEEN

YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE IT’S HALLOWEEN

You make me feel like it’s Halloween the first time I heard this electronic gothic track by Muse I thought it could be a compliment. Cool!

However, this song lyrics are about feeling trapped.

Thinking of a situation with no way out, do you find yourself imagining horror movie scenarios?

Muse certainly played with this concept.

Tribute or parody?

The video was edited by Jesse Lee Stout: Muse Creative Director for Metaform Studio, direction is by Tom Teller.

Among so many references, do you want to mention some?

There are several interpretations of You make me feel like it’s Halloween, mainly originated by the final phrase: but you are the caretaker.

In an interview Matt Bellamy jokingly stated that there were too many songs about Christmas and it was time for someone to celebrate some other holiday, like Halloween for example.

What do you think about?

Over these twenty years undoubtedly Muse with their hits accustomed us to different kind of emotions.

I have always been impressed first and foremost by the powerful charge that Matthew Bellamy & Co. manage to exude, but also by their trademark flair combined with a completely unique genre that initially made it complicated to include them into a defined musical genre.

What is your favorite among their songs?

I know, it’s not easy to choose, I can’t rank them, although I have a special connection with some in particular.

In light of this we can perhaps reconsider You make me feel like it’s Halloween more for the message than the horror quotes, would you agree?

On October 26 Muse will be at Alcatraz in Milan great way to feel in the Hallooween mood.

How about you? When do you feel like it’s Halloween?

BAGS: UNLIKELY CONTENTS

BAGS: UNLIKELY CONTENTS

Bags: unlikely contents. I’ve already joked about it  because you really can’t imagine what could come out of my bags.

But this time I found someone who beats me.

After ArtyCapucines, after the Bouncing bags and the bags of I sew so I don’t kill, about which I have already told you, after upcycling with Wicker bags, I point out the Snowman carrier!

And in particular Matsuzawa Yuko is the artisan who for Tsuchiya Kaban conceived and created the snowman bag!

The concept of 土屋 鞄 製造 所 【TSUCHIYA KABAN: In the mind of every conscientious leather bag craftsman is an imaginary drawer full of imaginative bag ideas that can be used to carry different things. By honing their skills and drawing on the knowledge they learn day by day, our artisans can bring design ideas into their minds.

It must be said that they managed to make it happen in an excellent way!

The snowman holder was born with this thought: Warmed by the steam rising from a bowl of hot soup on a cold morning, a quick glance out the window catches a drifting snowflake, white as cotton, the welcoming sight of the first snow is always a pleasant surprise. If only I could share with someone dear, the moment the first snow falls in the air …

And you, what would you like to keep in a bag?
