GREENWASHING

GREENWASHING

Greenwashing i.e., communication or marketing strategy pursued by companies, institutions, entities that present their activities as environmentally sustainable, trying to conceal their negative environmental impact.

I would say this is happening more and more, what do you think?

Let’s go back to Trieste where the 20th edition of International Talent Support was held, it was launched in 2002 and has become a platform for showcasing and supporting young talent.

The historic location at the Salone degli Incanti in the heart of Trieste was the scene of the presentation of “The First Exhibition: 20 years of contemporary fashion evolution,” an exhibition that enjoys the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and will be open to the public in spring 2023.

In jury Orsola De Castro referred as the pioneer of upcycling

Her schedule these days shows a constantly updated Utopia continuation of the flagship themes of Fashion Revolution of which she is a co-founder.

Instead of making people feel guilty, we help them recognize that they have the power to do something to bring about positive change.

I find this a great place to start in general.

Greenwashing is not just about the fashion industry.

We could mention glaring examples in music as well, or in marketing: misleading advertisements and greenwashing.

Not to mention the nonsense in terms: we are at the point where we are given advice bordering on the ridiculous to reduce the use of electricity under the illusory assumption that we can reduce bills that have become unaffordable, but at the same time incentives for electric cars are published in the Official Gazette.

And how should we charge them, then?

ANGELO MORIONDO DOODLE

ANGELO MORIONDO DOODLE

Today’s doodle is dedicated to Angelo Moriondo on the occasion of his birth date, so we can’t help but remember him here too!

This video from the Economy Times illustrates Angelo Moriondo’s story in broad strokes

I immediately focused on the date: 1884.

1884, which is the date of publication of the patent in the Official Gazette of the Kingdom of Italy.

1884 which is the date on which the people of Turin, who already count the Bicerin among their specialties, enjoyed the world’s first espresso coffee.

1884 which is also the date when meridian 1 i.e. the Greenwich meridian was established.

But which also corresponds to exactly 100 years before what for me is the glorious and emblematic year 1984

To get back to coffee, Bicerin and chocolate though, Angelo Moriondo must be credited with a taste for GOOD things, since after coffee he founded the Moriondo and Gariglio chocolate shop.

What struck me, is the historical sign, which reads “confetteria” exactly like Il caffè al Bicerin

The people of Turin, accustomed to coffee and chocolate, are sympathetically described to us by The Economic Times as impatient with respect to brewing times.

But precisely because of this excelling in the art of brewing, someone claims that Turin is the true Italian coffee capital … as the saying goes … there’s no two without three, right?

Here is the poster for the upcoming Turin Coffee: coffee exhibition in Turin to be held on June 11 and 12, on which “Turin coffee capital.” stands out.

Trieste, Naples or Turin then?

LOCAL BROADCASTER EMERGENCY FUND

LOCAL BROADCASTER EMERGENCY FUND

If I say “emergency fund” what do you think?
I associate it with the thought of special help, with a kind of protection that makes it possible to cope with a delicate and difficult financial situation.

In this period various words are taking on new meanings linked to the current context: bonuses, financial aids …

Treccani dictionary defines a fund as a set of monetary means held in a given period for a specific purpose.

“Local broadcasters emergency fund” here I had imagined something a little different than what was communicated by Mise, which actually writes the wording exactly in quotation marks under the title:
Fund for local broadcasters – Extraordinary contribution for the transmission of institutional communication messages (health emergency).

The decree of 12 October in the Official Gazette fully explains that:
the beneficiary local radio and television broadcasters undertake to transmit within their information spaces the institutional communication messages relating to the health emergency that will be made available through the platform made available by the Ministry of Economic Development.

It is also worth reading the attachment: a rate table with variable amounts according to the number of passages to be transmitted at fixed times.

I’m perplexed, how far are we from the comparison with buying advertising space?
Yes, I know, it is bad to make these speeches when there are moral issues involved, but I really would like to understand.

What’s your opinion?
Have you ever listened to any of these broadcasts? Are they announced as institutional communications?
Is RAI really not enough?

Why this “conditional help” when for months every news broadcasts news and interviews with government members, not to mention the amount of dedicated programs and talk shows?

Maybe I’m wrong, you always correct me.

IS THE FROG BOILING?

IS THE FROG BOILING?

In these days in which we are under the centrifuges of information shot at accelerated speed, we find ourselves thinking also about how many rights enshrined in our Constitution have been suspended by decrees with that initials so far unusual: DPCM.
Our Constitution actually does not provide for the declaration of the state of emergency, and simply refers to the Civil Protection Code, in fact this Code is referred to in the now infamous publication in the Official Journal of January 31.
Our constituent fathers did not consider appropriate to insert emergency clauses, considering that the eventual conferral of full powers to a specific body, or the legitimization of the limitation, or even the suspension of citizens’ rights, could have represented a danger in the event of possible risks of dictatorship.
Emergency is, by definition an unforeseen circumstance, a concept therefore that in fact refers to a critical moment, to a particular condition that requires immediate intervention.
Undoubtedly what we are experiencing is a series of completely incomparable events, and it would be appropriate to try to keep focused on the fixed points: that is, the certain data.
It costs just a few seconds to go and read from official sources.
What is real and correct, helps anyone to make their own reflections, in the shelter of the bass drum of some media that feed panic and consequent misplaced behaviors and, on the other hand, helps to answer the title question.
The boiling frog is Noam Chomsky’s infamous metaphorical principle that if
“Imagine a pot full of cold water in which a frog swims quietly.
The fire is lit under the pot, the water heats up slowly. Soon it becomes lukewarm. The frog finds it rather pleasant and continues to swim.
The temperature rises. Now the water is hot. A little more than the frog does not appreciate. It gets tired a little, but it does not get scared.
The frog finds it very unpleasant, but it is weakened, it does not have the strength to react. Then it endures and does nothing. Meanwhile, the temperature still rises, until the moment when the frog ends – simply – boiled dead.
If the same frog had been immersed directly in the water at 50° it would have given a strong paw and would have jumped out of the pot immediately.”
However, this pot has a further disturbing characteristic: its size. It involves the whole world.
But “Being boiled” also has a slang meaning, at least we can remedy that.
