You make me feel like it’s Halloween the first time I heard this electronic gothic track by Muse I thought it could be a compliment. Cool!

 

However, this song lyrics are about feeling trapped.

Thinking of a situation with no way out, do you find yourself imagining horror movie scenarios?

Muse certainly played with this concept.

Among so many references, do you want to mention some?

There are several interpretations of You make me feel like it’s Halloween, mainly originated by the final phrase: but you are the caretaker.

In an interview Matt Bellamy jokingly stated that there were too many songs about Christmas and it was time for someone to celebrate some other holiday, like Halloween for example.

What do you think about?

Over these twenty years undoubtedly Muse with their hits accustomed us to different kind of emotions.

I have always been impressed first and foremost by the powerful charge that Matthew Bellamy & Co. manage to exude, but also by their trademark flair combined with a completely unique genre that initially made it complicated to include them into a defined musical genre.

What is your favorite among their songs?

I know, it’s not easy to choose, I can’t rank them, although I have a special connection with some in particular.

In light of this we can perhaps reconsider You make me feel like it’s Halloween more for the message than the horror quotes, would you agree?

On October 26 Muse will be at Alcatraz in Milan great way to feel in the Hallooween mood.

Fomo means Fear of Missing Out.

Neologism appeared on Treccani already in 2015 and, as indicated by the Accademia della Crusca, published in the Zingarelli in 2022.

I just told you about Darth Anxiety: on fears I am very well prepared.

Have you ever had fear or a sense of exclusion?
Do you have or know other types of phobias?

The first considerations regarding the phobia of being excluded would seem to go back to Dan Herman, marketing expert, I would advise you to take a moment to read this analysis. 

The fear of being cut out can also be understood as exclusion from the famous commercial offers that offer products in promotion “until sold out” or by announcing a limited number of pieces.

But the academic study on the phenomenon was published by the team of Andrew Przybylski of the University of Oxford and pointed out that Fomo disproportionately affects young people, especially males.

This leads to associate the fear of being cut off with the virtual world of social networks.

However, it is not so obvious and according to a further National Library of Medicine‘s study which was also attended by “our” Sara Palmieri there is still a lack of correlation.

The results are as follows:
In some populations, FoMO appears to increase with age and is inversely in other populations. Facebook use is unrelated to FoMO in some populations, and a higher FoMO is linked to stopping Instagram use for some individuals. The FoMO-Internet use association is independent of gravity, since the interaction is not significant and this association is neither linear nor curvilinear. The FoMO-Internet use association does not appear to be associated with depressive, anxiety and stress symptoms or life satisfaction levels.
FoMO demonstrates a considerable role in the use of the Internet; however, there is no evidence of bidirectional interaction or association between the aforementioned. Overall, we still don’t know what factors contribute to individuals exhibiting distinct patterns in the FoMO-Internet use association.

On June 28, a film produced by KDPBelgium will premiere in Antwerp, the title is FOMO:
a group of 10 influencers take part in a brand new reality show with a trip to the world as the main prize. The game, which takes place deep in the forest, doesn’t turn out to be as innocent as thought. Numerous bizarre situations occur that lead the group to question the program setting. When a masked killer suddenly shows up, the game turns into a battle for survival and a game of cat and mouse takes place between the influencers and the killer.

But in this case I would say that the type of fear is very different, isn’t it?

The TOHorror Fantastic Film Fest will take place in Turin from the 19th to 24th of October, are you a lover of the genre?

Obviously I was captured by the logo with the profile of the cat next to the Mole Antonelliana, but the reason why I was interested is I 12 passi – The 12 steps …

I already told you about Black Ink podcasts, advising you to listen to her stories. 

Now Serena is among the finalists of the contest Il gatto nero – The black cat and I can only say CHAPEAU.

The official page opens with a quote from Edgar Allan Poe and therefore I would say that there is only the classic “nothing to tell about,” but it closes with something less universally known: Donald Barthelme “The aim of literature … is the creation of a strange object covered with fur which breaks your heart.”

Donald Barthelme was also called “modern Dadaist” and in fact, here I am trying to focus on that strange hairy object of which he speaks, but hoping to have saved the heart.

But let’s go back to TOHorror, I don’t know if you follow this event but I would say that the occasion is tempting also in view of the period: All Saints or Halloween or Samhain or Nos Galan Gaeaf whatever you want, and I would say that the ideas are certainly interesting.

The TOHorror website tells us that the first edition of the film festival, dated 1999, had none other than Dario Argento as godfather,  but does not mention an event in my opinion epochal that instead I recommend you to see absolutely:

the director Tiziano Sossi explains that the original version is 76 minutes long, and therefore, researching I found this very precious translation of Fucinemute which represents an unmissable document!

Especially after the part of the interview we listened to, I would quote this passage from the interview, which particularly struck me:

“I moved when I was 5 years old to Kentucky, in a boring and very small town in south of United Stated and everything that I learned about evil, everything that I know about I have learned in that little town, from people there“.

This in my opinion is true horror! Am I wrong?

Ok, let’s change range:

No need to argue: everyone knows ZOMBIE of The Cranberries.

I can’t simply call it a song, to me it’s history.
It has recently exceeded one billion views on YouTube and I admit that some are mine.
A deserved success, which closes the circle of the previous song of the year proclamation at the 1995 MTV Awards.
Zombie was shot by Samuel Bayer, who also made the video of “Smells like teen Spirit” to be clear, but more than the undoubted quality, I would linger on the message and on the voice of Dolores O’Riordan.
Unfortunately now the first thing that is mentioned everywhere about her is the circumstance of death, but I would like to talk about life.
Not of her biography in detail, but I would particularly underline how she wrote this piece in a flash, after learning of the tragic death of two kids from a bomb.
Although the episode took place in Ireland in 1993, a specific sadly known context, Dolores has always avoided politicizing.
“In your head, in your head” Dolores repeats it, she invokes, she invites to think, it would seem banal and yet too often it is not.
Hers is a cry to unite, to awaken.
“Violence causes silence.”
I find that Dolores knows how to make this silence speak, she knows how to give voice to pain, she knows how to shout not anger, but the strength to say enough.
Zombie is against violence, against the inability to stop violence.

I don’t know about you but as far as I’m concerned, the thought comes loud and clear and settles viscerally.
Her “another mother’s breaking heart” becomes mine.
Her voice, her unique way of singing, constitute the focal point: a catalyst, which allows the message to communicate all its disruptive despair.
“Zombie was inspired by a child’s death. His life was taken in the arm’s of his mother. She was shopping in London last year, and there was a bomb planted in a rubbish bin in London and he happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and he died. The reason the bomb was planted was because of a political territorial kind of thing that goes on in the North of Ireland and the UK. So the references to 1916 was when a contract was signed, which signed away the 6 counties to England. And it still goes on today: the war, the deaths, and the injustice.”
