BEFORE YOUR MEMORY FADES

BEFORE YOUR MEMORY FADES

Before your memory fades … but the Italian title is The first coffee of the day… could I not read it?

Actually no, and that’s why my husband decided to give it to me.

Before your memory fades is the new book by Toshikazu Kawaguchi 川口 俊 和 published in Italy by Garzanti.

Do you know him?

I was very impressed to discover how Toshikazu Kawaguchi here in Italy has established himself thanks to the word of mouth that has been unleashed since March 2020, when his book Before the Coffee Gets Cold debuted and finished in the bestseller list within a week.

In fact, going backwards, about Toshikazu Kawaguchi

March 2012: the Grand Prize of the Suginami Theater Festival for the stage “Before the Coffee Gets Cold”

December 2015: the novel “Before the Coffee Gets Cold” published

April 2017: the Grand Prize Bookshop nomination

September 2018: cinema adaptation of “Before the Coffee Gets Cold” with Kasumi Arimura

February 2019: 100,000 copies of “In front of cold weather” exceeded in Taiwan

February 2020: the UK version of “Before the coffee gets cold” is 10th in the Bookseller ranking

March 2020: the British version wins the first place in the best-selling literary books in Singapore

until May 2020: his biography mentions a 3rd place as a novel translated in Italy in the ranking of the Corriere della Sera that I have not been able to recover

January 2021: Tales from the Cafe.

Autumn 2021: the project for a TV series  produced by SK Global and developed by The Jackal Group

And January 2022: Before your memory fades.

I don’t want to anticipate the focal point of these coffees nor what happens while the coffee is hot, in case you don’t know the story yet, but surely the idea of these special encounters over a cup of coffee is the key concept here on the blog too.

Unfortunately, without the magic and the Japanese delicacy, and with very different cooling times, but with the same intent to try, very modestly, to give small trips.

And about the first coffee of the day would you like to tell yours?

RIDDLE GUESS: WILL THIS BATMAN HAVE SUCCESS?

RIDDLE GUESS: WILL THIS BATMAN HAVE SUCCESS?

Riddle guess: will this Batman have success?

Oh, you’re really not as smart as I thought you were says the Riddler.

What?

He is Cedric Diggory, remarkably smart and noble of heart.

Ok, this mug is actually a little too big 🙂

He is Edward Cullen, smart enough to read minds.

In reality, however, he does not drink coffee … what a waste!

He is also Tyler Hawkins almost a Baudelaire cursed flower that hides intense humanity.

And then if it comes to guessing … Neil is an enigma within a riddle.

Seriously, the trailer reveals a much darker Robert Pattison who, even more than with the Riddler, will have to deal with the interpretations of his predecessors.

Riddle guess: will this Batman have success?

The “best Batman” diatribe is perhaps one of those discussions that will never end since we are talking about a character who has entered the hearts of many people.

Waiting to know the outcome of this new challenge, would you like to retrace some bat coffees?

Don’t you find that Ben Affleck always looks a bit defeated?

The interpretation of Christian Bale can be separated from the basic thought, namely: Nolan?

If you agree, I would skip Val Kilmer who we remember more gladly in Iceman, and George Clooney who has a certain conflict of interest with coffee …

Michael Keaton sincerely takes me back to the glorious 80s

Or do we go even further back?

DC explains the origins here

I absolutely mention the Lego version that also reserves the dedicated cup!

And finally a cartoon: this is how you order a coffee.

Here in our home there are the two opposing generations: father and son, and the question is examined down to the smallest detail!

For example: does Batman’s real costume stipulate that he can rotate his head or not?

Are you a bat fan too?
What’s your favorite batman?

DANDELION COFFEE

DANDELION COFFEE

My aunt of Belluno origins: from Mel to be precise, who always has excellent advice in store regarding the use of herbs or fruits, sent me this video

Hats off to The Guardian of the Wood Ferruccio Féro Valentino, and admiration for Tuenno, the Tovel Valley and the Non Valley.

Obviously my attention went to coffee made with dandelion roots.

Have you ever drank dandelion coffee?
Could you prepare it?

I know that the uses of dandelion are many, but I immediately associate it with the blow

Its little Ether Hood
Doth sit upon its Head
The millinery supple
Of the sagacious God
Till when it slip away
A nothing at a time
And Dandelion’s Drama
Expires in a stem.
Emily Dickinson

Emily reveals the drama yet I find myself rethinking the playful aspect that the Dandelion gave me in childhood, when the slip away was yet to come.

Have you ever run in a meadow like this?

The Dandelion’s pallid tube
Astonishes the Grass,
And Winter instantly becomes
An infinite Alas
The tube uplifts a signal Bud
And then a shouting Flower,
The Proclamation of the Suns
That sepulture is o’er.
Emily Dickinson

The Proclamation of the Suns.

These “suns” give us color, hope, apparently coffee too, and then what?

Do you know other ways to use dandelion?
Or can you use other wild herbs in some kind of preparation?

FUNGHI ESPRESSO – MUSHROOM EXPRESS

FUNGHI ESPRESSO – MUSHROOM EXPRESS

Your comments show that many of us use coffee grounds to fertilize plants, and this is undoubtedly a good thing.

But there are those who, before fertilizing the plants, use the coffee grounds collected from the local cafes to cultivate.

Well yes: it is a landless cultivation, only with coffee grounds, and it produces mushrooms!

These mushrooms are then sold in local fairs or in local restaurants: in Tuscany.

What better name than Espresso Mushrooms

Among other things, ironically, this business was born in a former shoe factory

The project was presented to UNIFI Impresa Campus in 2013 here you can find the spin off  of the Florentine University Incubator and the newsletter which decides its success.

Funghi Espresso then participated in Expo 2015  receiving consensus and acknowledgments.

Mushrooms Espresso is inspired by Gunter Pauli‘s Blue economy  becoming part of the concept of Smart city, but even more of Urban farming.

Antonio Di Giovanni, one of the creators of the Startup Mushrooms Espresso, is also the founder of Circular Farm whose production cycle illustrates in detail the composting process and hydroponic cultivation.

Have you already tried the hydroponic method, that is, out of the ground?

HOW DO YOU USE COFFEE GROUNDS?

HOW DO YOU USE COFFEE GROUNDS?

Have you ever reused coffee grounds?

I sometimes add them to the earth of the pots.

Unfortunately they were less helpful against the ants, you say they were particularly naughty like all the insects who decide to move here?

Have you ever tried?

Or maybe you can read them? The first scene that comes to mind is in Joel Schumacher’s Dying Young, when Estelle played by Colleen Dewhurst sees a bad omen in Campbell Scott’s cup.

What do you say? Better to focus on other ways of using it.

For example, RENS from Helsinki, Finland had the best idea of using coffee grounds together with recycled plastic to make sneakers!

They named them coffee shoes, isn’t it great?

I quote verbatim: we transform post-industrial plastic and used coffee grounds into feature-rich products that are made to go the distance.

While waiting to go the distance, this is definitely a first step, don’t you agree?
