PIAZZA DUCALE COVERED

PIAZZA DUCALE COVERED

I already told you about the Piazza Ducale in Vigevano: together we discovered the traces of Jewish presence, starting from the past to arrive at the present of the smart city version.

We saw it as a coffee lounge but also as a setting for cosplayers of Star Wars characters.

I wish you wouldn’t miss the Piazza Ducale “covered” version.

Suggestive, isn’t it?

Impressive.

At dawn

and sunset of a whole day dedicated to sharing.

These beautiful coloured blankets are all made of four knitted or crocheted squares joined together by a red thread as a symbol of relationship and union.

For months, many women worked to make these blankets with multicoloured wool and lots of imagination.

Some alone, like Betty during convalescence, some in groups, like Carola’s mother during the weekly meetings based on chatting, knitting and good things to eat.

And more blankets arrived from all over Italy, answering the call of Viva Vittoria

Viva Vittoria is a relational work shared by women for women.

Knitting is understood as a metaphor for self-development and conveys a message of awareness: we are the creators of our own existence.

If we are able to bring about change in ourselves, change can also take place in society as a reflection.

The idea of bringing these blankets from moments of aggregation was born in Brescia in 2015 and the proceeds of the sale are used for charitable purposes.

In Vigevano, three thousand blankets were adopted in Piazza Ducale in a few hours, the sum collected will be donated to the association Kore alongside women victims of violence.

GEORGIA GUIDESTONES

GEORGIA GUIDESTONES

One year ago, precisely on July 6, 2022, an explosion destroyed the Georgia Guidestones l and to date no guilty has been found.

The Georgia Guidestones were a granite monument hewn in 1980 in an area that for the Cherokee people is Al-yeh-li A lo-Hee which translates to “center of the world,”  on Elberton territory, more precisely.

For years the Guidestones have been such a tourist attraction that they have earned the nickname America’s Stonehenge

Well, this is an undoubted exaggeration, but I speculate that the Guidestones constituted an excellent calling card for a locality that carries the slogan “The Granite Capital of the World.” on its website.

A monolith of about 119 tons is certainly remarkable.

The reference to Stonehenge is due to some special features including, for example, the placement of the four large outward-facing vertical blocks that were oriented to the limits of the moon’s migration during the course of the year.

An oblique hole at eye level allowed the pole star to be visible at all times, symbolizing constancy and orientation with the forces of nature.

And a slit in the center of the stone formed a “window” that aligned with the positions of the rising sun at the summer and winter solstices and equinox so that the midday sun shone to indicate noon on a curved line.

The creators intended the stones to function as a compass, calendar, and clock.

But what most connoted the Guidestones was the message proclaimed on the monument in 12 languages, including archaic languages such as Sanskrit, Babylonian cuneiform, Egyptian hieroglyphics and classical Greek, as well as English, Russian, Hebrew, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Spanish and Swahili.

The text consisted of ten points, ten tips, ten guides for the preservation of mankind and future generations.

Keep humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.

Guide reproduction wisely, improving fitness and diversity.

Unite humanity with a “living” new language.

Rule Passion, Trust, Tradition and all things with tempered reason.

Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.

Let all nations rule internally, resolving external disputes in a world court.

Avoid petty laws and useless officials.

Balance personal rights with social duties.

Prize Truth Beauty and Love seeking harmony with the infinite.

Be not a cancer on the earth. Leave room for nature. Leave room for nature.

Even Agent Smith’s monologue defines mankind as a cancer in the 1999 film The Matrix

In general, these are concepts that recur while remaining ever relevant and lend themselves to interpretation according to the reader’s point of view.

The only specific indication is the first one.

When it was carved, the world population was well over four billion people.

Who could have thought to write such a thing then?

The story described by the Elberton Granite Finishing Corporation itself explains that the patron was “a mysterious group of sponsors” represented by one man: Mr. Christian, who introduced himself as R.C. Christian.

Message and mystery for mankind

that was the slogan on the explanatory brochure.

Mr. Christian said only that this monument had been planned for years and that the ten “guides” for the preservation of man and the earth had been carefully formulated as a moralistic appeal to all peoples regardless of nationality, religion or politics.

Guidelines that were defined as “applicable to life.”

Until May 2022 when a senator included among her campaign points the demolition of the Guidestones, or rather, the Satanic Guidestones.

Kandiss Taylor also noted a particular coordination with respect to the placement of the Guidestones as explained in this May 3, 2022 tweet

On July 6 he then thanked God again via tweet

Video from a surveillance camera shows the moment of destruction:

The remains have been removed for security reasons.

There are those who speak of reconstruction and those who inflame controversy and theories.

What will be the truth?
We wait to be enlightened …

Meanwhile, the Elberton Granite Museum offers an older story.  🙂

YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE IT’S HALLOWEEN

YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE IT’S HALLOWEEN

You make me feel like it’s Halloween the first time I heard this electronic gothic track by Muse I thought it could be a compliment. Cool!

However, this song lyrics are about feeling trapped.

Thinking of a situation with no way out, do you find yourself imagining horror movie scenarios?

Muse certainly played with this concept.

Tribute or parody?

The video was edited by Jesse Lee Stout: Muse Creative Director for Metaform Studio, direction is by Tom Teller.

Among so many references, do you want to mention some?

There are several interpretations of You make me feel like it’s Halloween, mainly originated by the final phrase: but you are the caretaker.

In an interview Matt Bellamy jokingly stated that there were too many songs about Christmas and it was time for someone to celebrate some other holiday, like Halloween for example.

What do you think about?

Over these twenty years undoubtedly Muse with their hits accustomed us to different kind of emotions.

I have always been impressed first and foremost by the powerful charge that Matthew Bellamy & Co. manage to exude, but also by their trademark flair combined with a completely unique genre that initially made it complicated to include them into a defined musical genre.

What is your favorite among their songs?

I know, it’s not easy to choose, I can’t rank them, although I have a special connection with some in particular.

In light of this we can perhaps reconsider You make me feel like it’s Halloween more for the message than the horror quotes, would you agree?

On October 26 Muse will be at Alcatraz in Milan great way to feel in the Hallooween mood.

How about you? When do you feel like it’s Halloween?

WALKING ON THE VIA FRANCIGENA

WALKING ON THE VIA FRANCIGENA

As often happens, Monica tells me a good story, but this time it is not written in a book: the story of Cindy Nanette and Mina, and it is only at the beginning.

They left Pontarlier in France on September 10th and are planning to arrive in Rome for Christmas.

These days they are in Lomellina: today in particular in Mortara, after having made a stop yesterday in Robbio

I, who was a child, let’s say … a little earlier laughing I immediately thought of Remi, Joli Coeur, Capi and Zerbino, but beyond the poetic image I find the message that embodies leaving now really important.

Since it was declared a Cultural Itinerary, the Via Francigena has taken on a further role in addition to the spiritual one and initiatives connections and contacts have multiplied, thanks also to the web network that offers valid background support.

What struck me, however, is the particular “historical moment”: while everyone closes, while more or less visible barriers arise, Cindy Chopard sets out, relying on the good heart of the people and hospitality.

The idea of reaching the goal for Christmas is not of secondary importance. Curious coincidence: I underlined the 100 days countdown  exactly one month ago.

But as the scenario changes from day to day, perhaps never as now we are all living in the uncertainty of what this Autumn, which is presenting its first colds, and the next Winter will have in store for us.

So everyone has before her/him a sort of journey made up of different steps, to be taken more or less metaphorically, during which we can perhaps follow some other stages of Cindy and her traveling companions.
