LA PASSIONE DI FRIDA – FRIDA’S PASSION

LA PASSIONE DI FRIDA – FRIDA’S PASSION

Frida’s passion published by tre60 is also the passion of Caroline Bernard pseudonym of Tanie Schlie who for her twenty-seventh birthday receives the biography of Frida Kahlo written by Hayden Herrera and begins a journey of immersion in everything that revolves around the artist.

On her website in the foreground the sentence: “And then I sit in Paris at the Café de Flore and I order my inspiration” … same Café de Flore in which Frida also sits on page 270.

The book also talks about a small café called La risa: laughter, but above all it talks about the PASSION mentioned in the title.

A passion so strong and visceral as to be unique and unrepeatable, a real bond made of earth, painting and blood that Frida Kahlo reports not only on her works but also in every single moment of her life.

A painful life, a life without discounts, never.

I particularly received inspiration in terms of living with pain, but it was other types of suffering that raged on Frida that came to me with the same intensity of her determination.

That hole in her heart remains indelible.

But superior is the strength with which her example arrives of how the will transcends the physical, managing to touch the impossible.

As much as fate is cruel.

At her death, her personal items were collected and banned from the public for a period of fifteen years at the behest of her husband Diego Rivera, but in reality the years passed before they were exhibited are fifty.

Among the photographs available thanks to The Guardian I was struck by the boots. Observe them well

And I tried to imagine the perfumes of Casa Azul

Mexicanidad.
In a sentence in the book, her sister Cristina, who bears the same name as the friend I thank for the book, tells Frida that she is Mexico.

But she is also pain, tangible, inexorable, irreducible.

Thanks to the book, it is possible to witness the birth of some of his paintings following a thread of emotions, as if they could not be thought otherwise.

Do you have a favorite?

You can see them on the Foundation’s website, or here you will find a selection combined with quotes.

I conclude with a news, reported by Fantastic Nonna: the Municipality of Milan has dedicated a square to Tina Modotti who plays an important role in the book.

I fell in love with this photograph.

Do you have one in which your smile explodes radiating joy

IN MILAN COFFEE IS IN HURRY, IN NAPLES WITH THE THREE C, AND WHAT ABOUT DUBLIN?

IN MILAN COFFEE IS IN HURRY, IN NAPLES WITH THE THREE C, AND WHAT ABOUT DUBLIN?

This is Laura’s question, in comments on whether Dublin is the second most coffee-obsessed capital.

About Milan I would say that there are no doubts.
Everything is hectic, everything is running, everything is accelerated.

By the way, since we are on the subject, I would even like to point out the new dates for Milano Caffè: from the first to the third of October, hoping that this year the event will return to be a live party.

But Caffè in Milan is also one of the most significant expressions of the Italian Enlightenment. I refer to the newspaper founded by Pietro Verri which, as Treccani suggests,  was printed in Brescia to escape Austrian censorship. Here you find the story.

Regarding the three C’s in Naples, I loved the way Laura told me about it, and I absolutely want to learn to absorb the “aroma” of this concept, which is also being together.

But since there is so much to say, I refer to a post dedicated to Al tavolo di Amalia just to share with you how nice it is to be in company, “at the table” of this blog which is a gold mine of information on Ischia and beyond.

I fell in love discovering traditions, real life stories, tales framed by the link with the sea and experiences of going back to origins.

So while I wait for the coffee at Amalia’s table to be ready as per the strict c c c rule, I try to answer Laura’s question: and what about Dublin?

A first answer can be found Tra Italia e Finlandia: laughing where Luisella tells us about her experience with Dublin Pubs.  I quote verbatim: pubs are known for being places where people go to drink ales,  which makes them legendary,  still you can find any beverage there:  even coffee!

Going on with the research, since I told you about Trinity College, I got the crazy idea of asking Professor David Berman, starting from the base of his study on coffee habits illustrated in an interview on The Irish Times

A beautiful exchange was born!
I will never stop thanking him properly.

Professor Berman first of all wanted me to talk to him about what coffee is for us in Italy.

So I would take this opportunity to ask you the same question in case you want to expose your personal idea.

And in the end we came to the conclusion that the Brew Smartly ranking has its foundation and reason to be, and reflects a change of habits especially in the last twenty years, compared to the classic beer or whiskey which represent a bit the immediate association of ideas when one thinks of Ireland.

It can therefore be concluded that it is not far from the truth to say that the Irish style has become more serious, more sober.

But the great thing is that from the considerations on the change, the question shifted to music!
No, I can’t explain how happy I am!

An example above all Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem

In the case of music, however, evolution does not lead to something like coffee.

On the contrary, it passes through the painful period known in history as The Troubles, or the civil war for the autonomy of the population of Northern Ireland divided between Catholics and Protestants.

Obviously my first thought goes to Dolores but there are many musical masterpieces that can be mentioned:

should I stop?
Do you want to add something?

RED ELF

RED ELF

As a bad researcher, unfortunately I was unable to find a pearl that I wanted to show you: it came back to me hearing about the House of Gucci set everywhere.

Ridley Scott is filming in Italy between Gressoney, Milan and Como and rumors about the cast are going crazy, which boasts a remarkable roster of characters: Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Al Pacino, Jared Leto and Jeremy Irons…

But I would like to focus on Patrizia Reggiani: reading that she was annoyed at not having been contacted by Lady Gaga, I immediately thought back to the interview during which I had got to know her in all her resolute personality.

November 13, 1993: one of Harem’s guests is Patrizia Reggiani and Catherine Spaak, with that touch of perfidy hidden under her smile, interviews her in particular about the separation.

Patrizia Reggiani tells how Maurizio Gucci noticed her at a party as a “red elf” because of her dress, and adds that she initially made him believe she was the daughter of a “truck driver” only to specify that her father had an important transport company.

I remember one of Catherine Spaak’s comments: “I would have continued to be the trucker’s daughter a little longer …”

But the crescendo comes when Spaak asks “has she already had a lot of money, the house here, the boat there … isn’t that enough?”

Answer: “Gucci assets have been rated xxx, what do you think?”

Well, obviously I don’t remember the figures or the details, but the response phrase and the tone of the “what do you think?” remained impressed on me as if I had heard them yesterday.

And I imagined them as a frame for the statements against those who will play her on the big screen.

I want to clarify, but promise me not to ban me for this, that I do not like Lady Gaga … well, I said it.
I am talking about the singer, because I have not seen A star is born and therefore I do not comment on acting, which, moreover, has been praised by everyone.

But meeting the person to be interpreted is not the rule.
Do you remember examples of this?

The vision of the film will give us the arduous sentence …

Speaking of visions, in case you, who don’t have all my springs, have never seen Harem, I suggest you recover some excerpts: at the time the interviews with Catherine Spaak gave various goodies, making people known a little more in detail a variegated parterre of characters.

Find a selection here

If, on the other hand, you want to get a personal idea of Patrizia Reggiani, you can review the interview with our lady Franca Leosini for Storie Maledette.

And, just in case, as always: correct me if I’m wrong.

MILAN Sant’Ambrœs

MILAN Sant’Ambrœs

Today is a day of celebration for many people who live and work in Milan, but in general Sant’Ambrogio is an important event for everyone, arriving the day before the Immaculate Conception: both dates that officially kick off the Christmas season.

If you have not yet had the opportunity to visit the basilica of Sant’Ambrogio, I suggest you to mark it for the first useful occasion, for me among other things it represents the memory of the prelude to work, right in the immediate neighborough: in those same streets where until 2006 the Oh bej oh bej fair took place.

A particular name, a Milanese expression that, in addition to representing the dialect that is the roots, to which I always care, recalls the cries of joy of children: what could be more beautiful?

Oh beautiful! Oh beautiful! Were the games and sweets that Giannetto Castiglione distributed to children in 1510 to obtain benevolence from the Milanese fearing not to be welcomed in view of the assignment received from the Pope, towards which the Milanese had shown discontent.

Have you ever had the opportunity to visit this market?
I would say that it is really fun to browse among the stalls that offer curiosities and out of the ordinary objects.
These are some of Elisa‘s pictures from last year:

I was there once in the glorious 80s and a few years ago also in the new location in the Castello Sforzesco area again thanks to Elisa who then guided us to the Christmas Village, after a visit to the Natural History Museum which I also recommend, in particular to make children spend an unforgettable day.

After all, Milan is an inexhaustible source of interesting things to do, of beautiful things to see, and also of good things to eat, why not?
Since we are in the Christmas theme, for example, we cannot fail to mention the panettone which, among other things, always goes well with a good cup of coffee.

The official site of the consortium reports three different legends related to its origin. Which would you choose?
I choose the second, ça va sans dire… laughing

But let’s not get lost in romance: it’s almost time!
The appointment with the premiere of the Teatro alla Scala, which is one of the most worldly events ever, this year will be broadcast.

A riveder le stelle.

It means to see the stars again, and let’s hope not only them.

MILAN FASHION WEEK

MILAN FASHION WEEK

The 2020 edition of the fashion week in Milan has ended, an important and iconic event that this year had a particular role: the watchword is phygital.

As for Micam, PHYGITAL indicates the interconnection between the real world and the digital world: a new dimension in which the words physical and digital merge, giving rise to an overlap between communication and interaction allowing an offer both online and offline.

These days I have already published on social media some videos of the events that have struck me most, even if the range of events and fashion shows is so large that it is a challenge to try to “summarize”.

I try to do as the serious blogs that manage to outline in points: would you like to retrace Milan Fashion Week in 5 steps?

  1. I was struck by Missoni’s idea of telling the new collection through a real postcard from the Sacro Monte of Varese, the video begins like this: “Varese is like a dream …” and this tribute to the roots moved me which for me are very important “to fall in love with a place

  1. The event. I have already widely declared my highest esteem for King George and therefore I let you imagine with how much trepidation I followed the docufilm and the parade on TV. At the first trouser suit in a variation of green I was already stretched … forget about it

    TIMELESS THOUGTS

  2. Salvatore Ferragamo presented an amazing fashion film that I hope you didn’t miss the other day (when I shared on Twitter and Facebook) because unfortunately the video is no longer available.

In a deserted Milan during the days of the lockdown, the presentation of the collection inspired by Hitchcock’s masterpieces, directed by Luca Guadagnino, took on an absolutely magical flavor, the quotations from The birds, Vertigo and Marnie chase each other. The garments that even have colors such as Hedren green, Vertigo mauve or Bodega Bay sky, are real tributes, not to mention Mariacarla Boscono‘s interpretation.

  3. 4. Valentino transforms the former Macchi foundry at Bovisa with plants and flowers from 8 different countries and chooses to show ordinary people: street casting instead of professional models. The message is romance and the key word is re-meaning, which I like. and you?

  4. Final theme
